About the Bag
Who creates the hand-woven bag at Speranza?
Our hand-woven bags are meticulously made by talented Filipino artisans from the local communities in the Southern Philippines. Many of them are persons deprived of liberty - who were given a second chance at life. Speranza provides a platform for these individuals to showcase their exceptional artistry and craftsmanship.
What are the bags made of?
Our Speranza bags are intricately hand-crocheted with soft straw rope material that makes our Speranza bags lightweight, delicate to the clothes, durable, water-repellant, and washable. We also use other natural materials for our bag handles and accessories, such as mother of pearl, shells, bamboo, rattan, nito vine plants, and more.
The latest Bead Collection is also proudly handmade by talented Filipino PDLs. It features a stunning array of wooden beads that seamlessly combine versatility, functionality, elegance, and a chic, trendy flair. Each bead is crafted with care to emphasize the natural beauty of wood, providing a warm and organic aesthetic that can enhance any design.
Bag Features:
Most bags have interior cloth lining, and an inside pocket, enclosed with zippers or magnetic snaps. Some bags come with accessories such as tassels or pompoms.
Each Speranza purse comes with a labeled eco-bag, which can be used as a dust bag.
Care suggestion:
1. Straw Bags and Accessories
- To remove dirt, just hand-wash with care using gentle liquid soap, towel-dry the hardware (locks & zippers) and hang-dry the bag.
- Wipe with a clean cloth the bag handles with bamboo, nito vine plant, rattan, wood, or shell/mother of pearl materials. Avoid getting the rattan parts wet due to their natural attributes. Handle with extra care so as not to drop the bags with fragile materials such as shells, mother of pearls, and wooden handles.
2. Beaded Bags and Accessories
- Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe away any dust or dirt that may have accumulated on the beads. Avoid using water or harsh cleaning chemicals, as they can harm the wood.
- Wooden beads are sensitive to moisture, so keeping them dry is essential. If it happen to get wet, simply pat them dry with a soft cloth and let them air dry completely before you store or use them again.
- Direct sunlight can cause the color of wooden beads to fade over time. To prevent this, store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
Use the Speranza eco-bag as your dust bag. Store in a clean and dry place.
